Would someone please tell me whether a standard(like a 2:80) 8 inch Mustang 65-66 V8 5 lug rear drum to drum is interchangeable with a 67-68 Mustang with no modifications, just bolts right in place? If you know that they don't interchange, what is the approximate width difference in inches?
May I assume that a Mustang 65-66 V8 rear drum to drum would also fit properly on a 65 Falcon since it was so close to the body of the firstMustangs ?
Thanks for the help!

I tried it years back--as Mustang6 mentioned, the 65-66 rear axle steps down towards the brake drums. So, it uses smaller u-bolts and different shock plates to bolt to the leaf springs. So, it does not easily bolt in.
67-68 is 2 inches wider, one inch per side. If your planning on running late model wheels this helps because you won't need to run a bolt on spacer. I did this in my 66 coupe. The stock 66 coupe 8" then went on my 65 Falcon sedan. That was a bolt in using the u-bolts and plates from the Mustang.
